They don’t lie to you. They just help you lie to yourself.
Demons are spirits shaped by corruption, not always evil, but undeniably dangerous. They are born from hunger, wrath, envy, or despair… or summoned into being by those foolish enough to bargain with the abyss. Some were once mortal. Some were never alive. Others were created by infernal forces, forged from pain and bound by sin. But make no mistake, demons are not mindless beasts. They are persuasive, intelligent, and seductive. They don’t chase. They offer. They don’t scream. They whisper. And if you let them in, they won’t take your soul…You’ll hand it to them gladly.
In Elysium, demons exist in many forms. Some walk freely, unbound and proud. Others wear mortal glamours or hide inside borrowed bodies. Many are tethered to contracts, relics, or names, either serving or being served, depending on who made the better deal.
Level One Magic (innate)
- Vice Sense: Demons can sense the dominant vice or weakness in others, whether it’s pride, envy, lust, or wrath. This isn’t mind reading, but an instinctual reading of emotional fractures and desires.
- Glamour of Sin: They can cloak themselves in beauty, fear, or allure, appearing as whatever the target most desires or dreads. This illusion is emotional, not visual, others feel the perception more than see it.
- Whispers of the Pit: They can plant a single thought or emotional whisper into the mind of someone nearby. It doesn’t compel, but it lingers — a doubt, a desire, a push. Used sparingly, it’s devastating. (can enhance with patron)
Physical Attributes
- Shifting Form: Demons can appear as beautiful, monstrous, or mundane. Most have a “true form” marked by infernal traits: horns, tails, wings, fangs, glowing eyes, burning veins, or clawed hands.
- Heat Signature: Their bodies run unnaturally hot or cold, depending on origin. This can affect their surroundings subtly: steaming breath, smoldering footprints, or frost along fingertips.
- Tethered Presence: Most demons are bound to a contract, object, or name. Some serve willingly, others resist, but all are anchored to something.
- Aura of Vice: Demons carry a passive influence that amplifies temptation, lust, greed, rage, obsession, despair. The longer they’re near someone, the more cracks begin to show.
Personality and Behavior
- Temptation as Power: Demons don’t need to attack. They plant ideas, twist emotions, and make people betray themselves.
- Contractual Minds: Words matter. They speak carefully and expect others to do the same. Even casual agreements may carry weight. They can be trapped, bound, or forced to obey if caught within proper ritual markings or enchanted items, especially if summoned through pact or invocation.
- Emotion Feeders: Some demons grow stronger in the presence of specific emotions, lust, anger, grief, fear. They may subtly provoke others just to feed. If denied their source of strength (e.g., no fear, no lust), demons can spiral. Starved of influence, they become unstable or volatile shadows of their former power.
- Charisma as a Weapon: They are alluring, magnetic, and often devastatingly clever. They know what you want before you do.
Examples
- Incubi/Succubi: Masters of desire, seduction, and obsession. Feed on intimacy or lust.
- Rageborn: Manifestations of wrath or vengeance. Burn hot and break fast.
Crossroad Demons: The classic deal-makers. They offer power, revenge, or love and always want something worse in return.
Echoborn: Demons created from the sins of others, not summoned, but awakened. Often lost, confused, or resentful of what made them.
